And loosely based on Izumi Kyoka's much earlier play of the same name? Only there it's a folklorist instead of a scientist. Hmmm. Interesting.

Subject: Movie ID help 

A friend of mine is trying to find the name of a film he saw in college in the 80's. His memory and description is sketchy but it involves scientists in an area where a goddess, who has failed at love, has caused a drought. The only other thing he remembers is the end which shows the area replenished with shots of water and waterfalls. It was in color. If anyone has an idea, based on this rather thin description, can you please let me know? Thanks
