Dear Markus,

Tom Nishikawa is an incredibly accomplished, young filmmaker. The density of his imagery and the carefulness of his compositions suggests the frame-by-frame work that made Japanese experimental film so powerful in the mid 1970s. It's wonderful to see him breathe an new power and vision into that tradition.

I think his work has had much better exposure in the US--he was living in San Francisco for years when he was a student at the Art Institute.
We showed one of his pieces as part of JPEX many years back. I believe he has moved back to Japan. He had a film or two screen in your home court--at the Ann Arbor Film Festival a few years back, I remember.

Jonathan

Is anyone familiar with the experimental work of Nishikawa Tomonari? Is he shown much in Japan?

Markus
