I forgot to ask, but one factor in the over-production of films may be
the tax code: i.e., how easy it is to write off production costs and
losses. The fact that investment in film had a faster depreciation
rate than other investments was one factor in non-film businesses
putting a lot of money into film in the 1980s (it was a way of
laundering the gains of the bubble), but does anyone have a sense of
what's going on now?
