Lumiere Brothers Japan Footage

I should second Quentin's effort to be a party-poop. I recall from
1995, when they had all those celebrations of the centennial of
cinema in Japan, that the Lumiere organization was very insistent on
their rights over the films and demanded payment for their use.

That said, I did want to mention that the DVD entitled The Lumiere
Brothers' First Films put out by Kino does have one of the films shot
by Gabriel Veyre, the Lumiere cameraman who went to Japan, featuring
kendo practice.

I think the DVD is out of print, but you may be able to find it on
the used market.
