There is also the excellent book:

Arnold Fancks "Die Tochter des Samurai ": Nationalsozialistische Propaganda und
Japanische Filmpolitik. By Janine Hansen. Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz, 1997.

I got a copy when it first came out, but have since moved and unfortunately lost
it. It's an excellent monograph. I may well have gotten part of my information
from it, and - like Kurosawa - somehow forgotten about reading it. It should be
of great value for the original questioner in Berlin.

My family lived as Americans among Europeans in Japan, both prewar and
postwar. The interactions of Europeans and Japanese have always fascinated me
and attracted my attention as a result.

With Apologies to Janine Hansen For Not Remembering This Much Sooner,

M. McCaskey
