hello,

The Itami version is available at the National Film Center in Tokyo. Also Naoki Yamamoto has published an excellent article in Japanese on the two versions of Atarashiki Tsuchi.

As for German-Japanese connection via Hayakawa Sesshu, there's a 1937 film, though in French, directed by Max Ohuls called Yoshiwara, co-starring Japanese diva Michiko Tanaka. Not a film with Greamn-Japanese actors, but an absolutely fascinating film.

Sincerely,

Ayako Saito
