Mainichi Film Awards 2010 + J-Docs

I don't know if Itoh - Diary of an Urban Priest, directed by the
Finnish filmmaker Pirjo Honkasalo, about a young ex-boxer, now
Buddhist monk who runs a bar in Yotsuya, can be counted as a Japanese
documentary. It was produced by NHK. Variety really praised it, but it
went by a low profile here in Japan - not even playing at Yamagata
2009, although it was finished by then (Japanese production year is
marked as 2008, when Pirjo was here in Tokyo to shoot it, but it
premiered in most countries, including Finland, 2010). Would anybody
know the reason for this exclusion from Yamagata?
