Japan Relief

If you are going to donate to an institution like the Red Cross,I would be inclined to avoid any mileage program. It mainly benefits the airline since mostly they exchange (and benefit from) very precious miles for trinkets or donations which are not clear in numbers, dates or recipients.(When will those blankets or tinned food reach any shelter? ) That huge companies like airlines have to resort to this instead of donating directly speaks for itself. If you are thinking of donating,it'd be best to do so directly with less intermediaries.

Same for United Airlines. 7500 miles minimum.
Also check out the website of http://www.japansociety.org/

I would like to remove Unicef from the list because they deduct 20% of the donation to carry their "business."
Most trustworthy is Japan Red Cross. Or contact your local Red Cross.
