indeed--e-mail (including mobile phone e-mail) and internet are working fine
fukushima is sealed off, so contacting anyone there will be considerably
more complicated

BBC World News online had posted a UK phone number for finding people in
Japan: check their website. Judging from past history, foreign civilians
trying to come here to "help" will be turned back at the airport.
Domestic phone service is still largely out, altho a call came thru from
London on my landline here in Kansai, which is undamaged. Shocks of up to 5
continue at the moment in the NE, but evacuation & relief work is highly
organized, and some transpo is running. It may take a few days to contact
your friends from abroad. I still cannot reach Tokyo on either cell or
landline, but e-mail seems OK.

Re: finding people.
A friend posted a notice on on Facebook about Google Finder, localized for
this earthquake. .It seems to be accessible in Japanese at
http://japan.person-finder.appspot.com/?lang=ja. (And of course in English.)

I am also interested in volunteering to help there. My heart, love, and

a short time!

Does anyone know of any volunteer groups that could go over there somehow
and help out. I have friends in Sendai I have no way of reaching.
