Join us as the Movie Committee screens its very first “pinku eiga”
(softcore porn film), the international sensation “Underwater Love,”
hot off its recent world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New
York. Produced by Japan’s prolific pinku producer Daisuke Asakura (a
woman) and Germany’s Stephan Holl, shot by Australia’s legendary
lenser Christopher Doyle, directed by Japan’s veteran pinku auteur
Shinji Imaoka, with music by French-German duo Stereo Total, special
effects from Yoshihiro Nishimura's creature shop and starring a
Japanese cast, David Kwok has called it “a wacky, silly, touching,
sexy spectacle like no other.”

Asuka (Masaki) works in a lakeside fish factory and is just about to
be married to her boss. One day, she encounters a kappa—a mythical
creature with a human form but a beaky face and tortoiseshell
back—living in the lake, and realizes that it is the reincarnation of
Aoki, her first love, who died when he was 17. She decides to hide
Aoki from her fiancé and others, but after she experiences
cross-species sex, things get a little complicated and her fiancé
grows jealous. Soon, Asuka must choose between her past and her
future.

Filmmakers Cocktail Party, from 6:00 – 6:55 pm. The cocktail party is
¥1,260 (incl. tax). On July 5, please pick up your ticket at the front
desk from 6:00 pm, and join us in the Anteroom. Cancellations received
after noon on the day of the screening will be charged in full. You
may attend the film without attending the cocktail party.

All movie screenings are private, noncommercial events restricted to
FCCJ members and their guests.
