Ueki Yoshiharu

This is a bit of trivia, but the news services report that the new president of Japan Airlines (JAL) is Ueki Yoshiharu. Never heard of him? Well, his father is Ueki Masayoshi, better known to the world as Kataoka Chiezo, one of the great samurai film stars. Yoshihara apparently started as a pilot and is the first president of JAL to emerge from the ranks of pilots. Do note that business acumen may run in the family. His father's Chiezo Productions was arguably the most successful of the prewar movie star productions, and after the war, Chiezo served for a long time on the board of Toei, even as he starred in Toei's movies.
