Subject: Nitani Hideaki
The news services report that Nitani Hideaki, who appeared in many of the great Nikkatsu Action films, passed away on the 7th of pneumonia. He was 81. He started out as a broadcast announcer but made his debut as an actor at Nikkatsu in 1956. He usually played the second lead in many Nikkatsu Action films--most famously in Seijun's Tokyo Drifter--but he did also star in a number of Nikkatsu B-movies. Leaving Nikkatsu in 1971, he appeared a lot on TV, particularly in the police detective series Tokuso saizensen, which ran for nearly ten years on TV. Interestingly, his daughter Nitani Yurie, who also tried acting, is currently president of the Try Group, which is famous for arranging home tutors ("Katei kyoshi no Try").
