Hi Markus,

Thanks for this - especially for the essay on Suo's Ozu-esque ABNORMAL
FAMILY. It's already led me to finding an English subbed version on
YouTube... Ahhh: this is my third great Japanese retrospective film
discovery joy of 2014, alongside Shimuzu's NAKINURETA HARU NO ONNA YO and
Mizoguchi's GUBIJINSO in Alex Jacoby and Johan Nordström's latest 1930's
program at Bologna (and thanks again, guys...).

I believe Suo's film already gets some use in teaching Ozu in undergrad
cinema studies. If so, it's a fascinating way of introducing pinku eiga
into the classroom.

A question: is Adachi-san's quote translated from the Japanese, or was it
written in English? Just curious...

qt

Best wishes

Oggetto: [KineJapan] Free ebook on pink film!

There have already been 1,044 downloads of Kinema Club's The Pink Book in
the first month of release. That's pretty impressive, but it's actually
far less than the total subscribers of KineJapan. If you haven't
downloaded your FREE ebook, turn your browser to:

http://kinemaclub.org/pink-book-japanese-eroduction-and-its-contexts

And choose either epub or pdf version. Or both!

Markus

PS: One of the most surreal book blurbs ever written:

This strange collection of brains has drawn an untouchable picture of the
Pink Cinema. It is not simply a record of their wanderings around the
utter darkness of the Japanese soft core sex film world. It is a story—for
any reader—more pleasurable than a child’s secret treasure box!
—Adachi Masao, director
