[KineJapan] KineJapan problems

As some of you know, we’ve been having problems with the KineJapan list. Some of the major mail services, such as Yahoo, AOL, and Hotmail, have been rejecting mail sent from KineJapan. It has gotten so bad that some members have been automatically unsubscribed by the OSU server after all the mail that has bounced back.

Researching the matter, I believe it has to do with new standards of authentication that these services are using to weed out spam, called DMARC. From what I understand, these services are rejecting any mail where the From line is not identical to the sender. The problem is that this is normal in most mailing lists: here at KineJapan, the sender is the KineJapan server and the member who sent the mail is in the From line. I tried changing the settings to “funge” the From line (which is why for the last few weeks you have been getting mail with the From line “XXX via KineJapan”), but that apparently hasn’t worked. So I tried changing the settings again to make mail “anonymous,” which means the mail address of the original sender is completely hidden and everything comes from KineJapan.

We’ll see if this solves the problem, but I do want to let people know that this means that unless you put your name in the post itself, no one will now know who sent it. So please put your name to mail you are sending to the list.
