A great loss. The news services report that actor Hira Mikijiro has died at age 82. While primarily a stage actor, he also appeared a lot in films and on television. His films include Three Outlaw Samurai, The Face of Another, Rampo, Pistol Opera, Princess Raccoon, and 13 Assassins. For anime fans, he was the voice of Grunwald in Taiyo no Oji. He was trained at the Haiyuza at the same time Nakadai Tatsuya was (Nakadai was one year senior), so I suppose this is a bit of a shock to Nakadai (who arrives at Yale on Tuesday).
