I'd like to draw your attention to two film events related to the Provoke exhibit, Provoke: Photography in Japan between Protest and Performance 1960-1975, currently on display at The Art Institute of Chicago.

This Thursday, February 9th, from 6:00-7:00 pm Miyai Rikuro will be screening Phenomonelogy of Zeitgeist (1967) and Shadow (1968) followed by a discussion with curator Hirasawa Go.  Next Thursday and Friday, February 16 and 17, we have organized a three-part program of late 1960s' experimental films at Northwestern's Block Cinema. The Thursday program starts at 7:00 pm and the Friday programs start at 5:00pm and 7:00 pm.  Prior to the Thursday screening there will be a discussion with director Oe Masanori, Hirasawa Go, and film scholar Takuya Tsunoda (Lecturer, University of Chicago). Oe and Hirasawa will also be present for a discussion after the second program on Friday, which features six of Oe's films.
