Hello Everyone,

below is a call for submissions for the 2018 David Plath Media Award for
work on East Asian Anthropology. The type of media that can be submitted is
pretty broad, so I imagine this could be interesting to a number of people.

Best,
Alex

The Society for East Asian Anthropology invites submissions for the David
Plath Media Award. This biennial award – named in honor of David Plath,
renowned Japan-scholar and producer of award-winning documentary films –
recognizes the best work (film, video, audio, and/or multimedia/interactive
media, such as websites) on any aspect of East Asian anthropology and/or
East Asian anthropology’s contribution to the broader field. The next David
Plath Media Award will be presented in 2018 for material produced in 2016
or 2017. Submissions are welcome from any part of the world.

Eligible submissions are those that contribute to the anthropology of East
Asia. Projects may take a diverse range of forms including research footage
and documentation that adds to the historical and/or ethnographic record or
is used for further analysis (such as linguistics, dance, and art);
ethnographic media that contributes to theoretical debate and development;
media designed to enhance teaching; and media produced for television
broadcasting and other forms of mass communication. Nominations for the
award may be made by producers/authors, distributors, or interested third
parties. The award carries a $300 prize and will be announced at the SEAA
Business Meeting during the 2018 AAA Annual Meeting (San Jose, CA).

The deadline for submissions is June 15, 2018. Submission details are
available on the SEAA website. All submissions should be accompanied by a
short abstract of the project. Online submissions are preferred, but three
(3) non-returnable DVD copies of media can also be mailed to:
