DESCRIPTION

Assistant Professor, Japanese Film and Media Studies

The Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Japanese film and media studies. This specialization may be broadly conceived to include transnational contexts and analyses, and is open in its range of media platforms (such as film, television, radio, anime, sound, games, mobile apps, and/or social media, etc.) and periods (from early cinema to contemporary media). We are also interested in candidates with a demonstrated engagement with one or more of the following areas: cultural studies, postcolonial theory, and/or the political and ethical implications of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class, and indigeneity. Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarship and in teaching a range of core and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. We offer the Ph.D. program in Visual Studies collaboratively with the Department of Art History. A Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies or related field must be completed by June 30, 2020.
