like Ann Arbor Film Festival, is going online. They just announced the
program; the festival starts on the 17th. It's a great festival. This
edition is regrettably Eurocentric, perhaps because it's online? I wonder.
In any case, there are a few Chinese films (all by exiles) and no other
Asian films as far as I can tell.
However, the French film *La Bobine 111004* is intriguing. It's about a
short film about Hiroshima/Nagasaki that I don't think I've heard of. The
synopsis calls it the first instance of film censorship of the atomic
bombings, but the director probably doesn't know about "The Effects of the
Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki." The film she's talking about was
edited from the footage that Dan McGovern and Harry Mimura shot...which is
clear from the wonderful still for the film (see below).
There will also be retrospectives and master classes with Peter Mettler and
Pedro Costa.
