Hello Maria,
Thank you so much for this information. This indeed makes perfect sense within the context of what I was looking at, the career beginnings of cameraman Fujio Morita at Uzumasa, and the name Ikeda Tomiyasu was definitely seen in this context.
I was worried that the Japanese source I was checking didn't have a typo in it and that Daido might have been any one of a number of companies beginning with Dai, because as you mention, it seems to have overlooked in biographical accounts.
Thank you for the Toy Museum link. This article certainly fills in a few gaps in the picture.
all the best and thanks again.
Jasper

Hello Jasper.
Daido Eiga was the failed project of Nikkatsu/ Daiei/ Shintoho director, scriptwriter and actor Ikeda Tomiyasu.
Founded possibly in the spring of 1946, amidst the aftermath of the war, Ikeda seemed very keen on having his own company and managed to "steal" some actors from Daiei, most notably Tachibana Kimiko.
However, Daido folded up without having produced a single film (accounts say Ikeda lost the initial energy and interest, I guess money also had to do with it) and it is often overlooked in any biographical account:

Both the directors and the actors then moved back to Daiei or to the theatre, as Tachibana herself.
The studios were supposed to be at Kyoto Uzumasa, if I recall correctly.

Hi everyone,
I have a quick question for those of you who might know a little about Kyoto film history. Does anyone know of a film company called Daido Eiga (大同映画) that was around circa 1946/47? The name came up in something I'm researching, and it seems to be a thing, but I can't find anything of substance about it on the internet.
Thanks for your help.
best
Jasper
