[KineJapan] East Asian cinema postdoc

US settler colonial history has a weird history of naming towns after other, more vibrant cities in faraway places. Thus we also have Cairo, Illinois; Pekin, Illinois; Paris, Texas; etc. 

So in this case, it’s Moscow, Idaho. The city in Idaho with the university.

It’s an exotic aspirational history whose contours I have never read written up anywhere, but many from interior states states or flyover country will recognize the phenomenon.
