This Monday, CJS at UM is holding a Zoom Q and A with Funahashi Atsushi
about 311. Because of Covid, everyone is watching the film beforehand
through the library’s Alexander Street subscription.
I just opened up Nuclear Nation and am seriously bumming. The image has
been letterboxed to something close to 21:9 widescreen. And the resolution
is ridiculous. I’d be surprised if it’s 240p.
I have to say I’m not shocked. I’ve had to get my library to change the
aspect ratio of many films from AS and Kanopy. Neither cares about quality
or quality control. And obviously subscribing libraries don’t care enough
either.
As discs go the way of celluloid, this is our miserable future. Do we just
accept this?!
