[KineJapan] This is Huge: Upscaling Framegrabs to 300 dpi

"what these AI programs do is "invent" the image in the sense that they
propose an image with the highest probability of resembling the real image,
but it is still an invented one (everything from those 72 dpi to 300 dpi). "
In my experience, I haven't seen anything "invented". There's nothing in
the upscaled version that wasn't there before. What you mention exists, but
the ones that I have used have merely interpolated the spaces well enough
to fill things in for clarity. Like no one has grown a nose that didn't
have one before.
Obviously, that's a discussion to be had, but downscaling a photo seems
just as misleading since it wasn't at all what was intended. Taking away
could be as suspect as adding? I don't know. A terrible super 8 version of
2001: A Space Odyssey isn't at all what Kubrick intended.
