Does anyone on this list have a more sure contact info with ImageForum? Or contact info for Arai Masao?

Please feel free to respond off list.

Horikoshi Kenzo, the head of Eurospace, died on June 19 at the age of 80. Horikoshi-san not only helped start the mini-theater movement by founding Eurospace in 1982, he was a leader in film education by helping found the Film School of Tokyo (Eiga Bigakko) in 1997, and then helping found in 2005 the masters program in film at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he became a professor. He was also a producer of films by directors such as Kurosawa Kiyoshi, Abbas Kiarostami, Leos Carax, et al. He was a central figure in the Japanese film world of the last 40 years.

I want to let the list know that my four-year project to review all 29 of Uchida Tomu's surviving films (11 prewar films; 18 postwar films) has finally been completed. Today?I submitted a post entitled "Coda," explaining my complex feelings about Uchida and the project, which appeared exactly four years after my very first post (the "Introduction") appeared.?
The films were reviewed non-chronologically. The final review I posted (yesterday) was for the super-rare Toei film Rebellion from Below (1956), based on Schiller's play William Tell. (Yes, the hero shoots an apple -- actually a Japanese persimmon -- on his son's head.)? I had to travel to Japan from New York twice (in 2022, while the country was still under COVID lockdown, and this year) to see several of the films.
I hope this site will be a valuable resource for those interested in Uchida's cinema and in the fascinating eras (from the early 1920s to the early 1970s) in which he worked.?

(contemporary) English-subbed format.

I love Uchida and twice co-curated (with Jasper Sharp and Johan Nordstrom
respectively, in London and New York) retrospectives of his films. This is
a marvellous resource. Omedeto!

Best,
