Dear colleagues,
I recently contributed an entry on Ozu’s Tokkan Kozo for an edited “Silent Cinema Companion” (it had the working title of “a silent cinema teaching companion” so selected titles are somewhat representative but necessarily canonical). The editors now ask for 1-3 texts representing current scholarship—in my case, highlighting Japan—to consider citing in their introduction. I’d like to cast the widest net possible, so I’m for list members’ recommendations – there’s so much worthy recent scholarship in this area that it’s a challenge for me to narrow possibilities while considering what might be most appropriate for this type of volume. I’m also thinking that we all tend to notice and gravitate toward titles according to our own interests, and I’d like to go beyond my own possible biases.
Can you help (here or off-list) with the titles you’d recommend in this case? I’m happy to compile responses and post them after a week or so.
All the best and thanks!
Joanne
