[KineJapan] Oki Hiroyuki

I was shocked and very sad to hear of the passing of Oki Hiroyuki, one of the pioneer queer filmmakers and artists in Japan. He was only 61. Working in a variety of media and genres, from experimental film to pink film, from documentary to gallery art, Oki-san was a daring artist who made the body not only the subject but the method of his art. News spread quickly at the YIDFF this morning of his sudden passing because Oki-san not only showed work at the festival, but served as a juror. I interviewed for the YIDFF's Documentary Box back in 1998. RIP to a very unique and original artist.
