Painted Ladies

Here in Minnesota the painted lady is just making a showing and finding
larva on the thistle commonly.  Early summer they were hard to find.  The
 late summer brood should bring there numbers up significantly.  Vanessa
virginiensis I would say was more common this year to this point.   Over
all I would say the butterfly Pop. was an average year in SW. Minnesota
