Permits, private land, and fossil fish

I am not sure about Kanasas, but at least in Wyoming permits are required to
collect fossil fish.  These fossils generally fall under the same rules as
other vertebrates, including dinosaurs.  Fossil collecting is another
activity that is strictly regulated by the government.

P.S.  I have seen fish fossils for sale in rock shops for hundreds to
thousands of dollars.  They can indeed be quite valuable.
