		POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Program Assistant/Associate to serve as Assistant Director of Monarch Watch

Available: 16 January 1998.

Deadline:  Review of applications will begin 5 January 1998.

Where: University of Kansas, Lawrence, KS.

Duration: One year. Continuation is contingent upon mutual consent,
satisfactory performance and available funding.

Salary:  Commensurate with experience up to $25,000 per year.

Description: Assist  in the management and development of Monarch Watch: a
cooperative network of students, teachers, volunteers and researchers
dedicated to the study of the Monarch butterfly, Danaus plexippus. The
goals of Monarch Watch are to further science education, promote
conservation of Monarch butterflies and to involve students and adults in
cooperative studies of Monarch biology. Monarch Watch is directed by
Dr.Orley R. Taylor, through the Department of Entomology at the University
of Kansas.

Duties: Duties will include preparation of grants, multimedia curricular
materials and computer based publications, supervision of students, and
communicating with the public in person and through electronic media.

Qualifications: MS or Ph.D. in Entomology or related field. Experience with
preparation of grants and/or publications is required. The candidate must
be proficient with computers as well as statistical analysis and data
presentation. Supervisory experience and ability to give presentations to
students, teachers and the public is required. Fluency in Spanish is
desired.
