I don't know how different my freezer temperature is from the temperature
outside, but it has worked very effectively to eliminate pests which have
already found there way into my specimens (live or dead).  I have managed to
revive Leps which have been frozen for less than 48 hours, but never longer.  I
know they survive outside or just below the surface for much longer than that,
but not in my freezer.  So I suspect that this procedure is pretty effective.

Living here in Vermont, it has occurred to me how ridiculous it is that I spend
$300 a month warming up my home to 68 degrees F., and an additional $25 a month
bringing a large box inside my home down to below 32 degrees.  What I need is a
robotic mechanism that will fetch what I need from an uninsulated storage box
OUTSIDE (where it is already below freezing).

Oh well.  Only 9 months to go...
