Trondheim, Norway, is situated almost in same latitude as Fairbanks,
Alaska. On 6 April I observed the first butterfly for the season: One male
Aglais urticae perching 4 pm. It was sunshine and clear sky, but rather
cold, arctic air, not warmer than 5 degrees centigrade.
A. urticae is always the first species to appear after hibernating, and
normally it begins to fly late March or early April here in Trondheim.
