Lack of butterflies

We in Delaware are experiencing low numbers of butterflies this year. The
number of swallowtails is way down, and I have yet to see a single monarch.
The number of moths appears significantly reduced as well.

We have not had the rain that New England is getting. But the warm, wet
winter was most unusual. As an example, this is the first year that I have
ever had pepper plants coming up in my garden from seed.

I would be interested in hearing about monarch counts in other parts of the
country.
