update on mysterious milkweed caterpillars?

I've seen these monarch like caterpillars too on or near milkweed plants
and always wondered what they were. My guess is that they are some kind
of large moth. Laurel, have you tried taking one of these guys up to the
entomology deptartment at San Jose State University?

If they shake their heads, try the Bohart Museum at the entomology dept
at UC Davis.
