The group had gathered on Sunday near the Grenadier Restaurant in High
Park to watch and count hundreds of turkey vultures and other raptors
migrating over Toronto. But the star of the show was a common buckeye
butterfly, that was seen throughout the afternoon.
It will be interesting to compare buckeye sightings in Ontario, with
sightings from previous years. At Presqu'ile Provincial Park, 150 km
west of Toronto, there had been about 5 previous sightings. This year,
there were 3 sightings, with one being photographed in September.
At Point Pelee National Park near Windsor, Ontario, about 10 were being
seen daily for a time.
