Predators: Mantid Identification

Thanks for this write up.  It answers one of the questions that my son and I
had from our recent excursion through southeastern Arizona.  He spotted this
mantid on a branch, approximately four inches long and mostly green (and
"praying").  The thing that grabbed my attention was the size of the abdomen
- the size of my thumb.  We just gawked at the thing.  It would have made an
excellent photo.

I thought it might be a species unique to the southwest.
