Ringlets - Coenonympha tullia california

I was in California a few weeks ago, west of Coalinga in the Coast
Range, and found a handsome little ringlet (C. tullia california)
there.  Mostly cream color, the underside has a darker brown streak
midway across each wing, where most ringlets have streaks that are
lighter than the ground color.  Is this normal for the fall flights?
Scott (Butterflies of North America) describes the cream color, but
doesn't mention brown marks.  He mentions the spring flights being grey
underneath, but doesn't describe the fall flights.  Garth & Tilden
(California Butterflies) say even less.
