moth evolution

Hello,
   I have a couple of questions concerning moths for anyone who might be
able and willing to help me with.
   Is it true that moths navigate by moonlight? Can you explain a little
of this to me?
   Also, how long have moths been in existence? Is it a matter of
thousands or, perhaps, millions of years? Specifically, I'm interested
in how long before modern humans appeared that moths existed.
   I appreciate any help any of you can give me.
