Dear Sharyn,

Yes, Dr. Shuey has recommended using the Costa Rican books for many of
the lowland coastal species at least for his end of May trip to Belize.
More info: IZE 800-548-5843 Not much for Mexico though I have a
listing of references for there if you wish.

There are a few other localized books within the states--Florida
(several), New Jersey, Georgia, s.e. Arizona, Florissant Colorado,
Indiana come to mind with several others in the mill. Note that though
Pyle has offered to update his Audubon guide to the standardized common
names, Chanticleer Press continues to publish outdated names. See:
http://www.naba.org/pubs/enames.html

Highly recommend Dr. John Heppner's "Classification of
Lepidoptera--Introduction" (11/98, Vol 5, Supl.1) that includes
extensive reference material (all books in print?) by world region.
That home page is http://www.troplep.org

I have put together several regional guides that may be borrowed for a
donation to the LANABA Conservation Fund---Northern California,
Washington, Rocky Mt. National Park, so. Texas, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico,
Colorado and Hairstreaks/Blues/Skippers of Costa Rica. I am currently
working on one for Sonora, Mexico and updating Vera Cruz, Mex.

Flutterby Press has other butterfly materials for sale such as
checklists, blurbs to expedite making your own area book, "Searching for
Butterflies in So. Calif," and some translations to standardized names
for some older books.....

Below is a list of references you may find helpful, interesting....
