Parnassus cloudius variation

Several years ago I caught a P cloudius that looks like the extinct
Santa Cruz ssp. It was along the coast but not local to Sta Cruz area. 
Does anyone know if Parnassus has or will show climatic form variations.
(where similar markings are produced by similar climates) or should we
picket Georgia Pacific to dedicate a few more sections for endangered
species protection. (we could all wear white with spots!)
