Limacodidae (southern California)

Hello.

When I was in Tennessee recently I saw what looked like it might be a 
limacodid caterpillar on oak.

It turns out that I was very probably right on the money, but I have yet 
tid it to species (I am close, though).  Is there such a thing as an 
up-to-date work where the family is thoroughly described (a field guide will 
do)?
