Job Title: School IPM Specialist
Starting Date: March 1, 2000
Location: University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA
Qualifications: M.S. or Ph.D. in Entomology
Description: The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is soon to require all
schools within the state to have a certified IPM plan in place for
structural and indoor pests. The specialist will be responsible for
coordinating the development of a website that will be used to provide
information and to help educate the citizens about pest issues within
schools. This website will also provide technical information for pest
managers. The specialist will be responsible for developing and
conducting forums to educate school officials about pests within
schools, IPM tactics for managing these pests, and elements that should
be included within contracts with pest managers. The specialist will
also be responsible for developing and conducting workshops and training
sessions for pest managersto provide proper pest identification,
information on pest biology, and IPM tactics for managing pests. This
position will focus on outreach, and will require strong communication
skills in writing and oral
presentations. Prior experience in urban IPM is preferred, but not
required.
Salary: $35,000 per year with fringe benefits, non-tenure track
position.
