INSECT VISION?

Hi,
	I'm new in this newsgroup. I'm a amateur painter /
photographer and I was just thinking about insect vision. Does
somebody know if there has been some research made on insect vision? 
I have some questions on this matter and need some advice:

- What is the dept of field (distance of perception) for
ants,  bees, butterflies and/or caterpillar?  

- When they look up a flower, how far do they see?
