Kenelm: The ant connection is what we were looking for. Hyalophora also deposit their eggs over a wide area, and they have a number of hostplants. But their tubercules are useless against ants, as far as I know. Have you heard of a use for the deely-bobbers on monarch caterpillars? Bill
