Some walking friends of mine reported that while walking in Wye, Kent UK
on Sunday 2nd May they spotted a white small tortoiseshell. It seems that
it wasn't a true albino (which I understand is very rare) because it did
have the blue spots on the wing borders. I have read that a number of
aberrations occur and that one such has the normal reddish-orange replaced
by white. I assume that this is what they saw but they've been observing
butterflies for many years now and assure me that this is the first time
they've come across this aberration so we wondered how common or uncommon
it is.
