If the purpose of the scientific name is to reflect the current 
(temporary or transient as well) understanding of its taxonomic status 
and relationships.  Why not give each recognizable entity a different 
designation, one that follows it throughout life (like a social security 
number).  Rather than give each taxon an alphanumeric code, we could 
designate a standardized common name.
