A message from Roger Kuhlman to yours truly:

"People like you make me very angry with your values-free approach to
science
that when boiled down to the bare essentials amounts to self-centeredness

and greed. If you can do some effective manipulation to the environment
to
make money and a profit that's what you do and you don't give any
consideration of the long-term consequences of your actions on other
members
of our biological community on earth. That's morally irresponsible and I
think it is something you should be ashamed of doing.

The proper ethic is to always keep long-term viability and health of the
world's natural environments center most.

Roger"

Since Roger has raised an issue, let me state (for the record) that I
have NEVER made ANY money (much less alone profit!) from releases. In fact,
I have turned money offers of "consultant fees" to speak on this issue.
I make my living being paid by the state of Arizona to educate students
and to do research.

I simply wish to point out to Roger that emotional retoric is fine, but
polarizes, rather than solves problems. As for "you don't give any
consideration of the long-term consequences of your actions on other members of
our biological community on earth.", Roger has very much missed the mark.
I DO care what the consequences might be, hence I try to explore in the
most nonbiased way possible what these might be. I simply don't assume
what they are or are not, as Roger seems to be doing.

Finally, if one reads the tone of my two postings (esp.the "Balance"
one), I'm hard pressed to see what generated this level of reaction. The sad
part is that obviously passionate individuals such as Roger have very much
to contribute, but their well-intentioned voice may be lost in the
emotion of their beliefs, turning undecided individuals away from Roger's point
of view rather than towards it.

Peace

Bruce

PS. I will (freely) release a few reared moths in Roger's honor.
