Hi again,
Guess you've noticed that the update isn't up yet! No, it has nothing
to do with the Y2K "non-crisis" (but wasn't it fun watching the news
folks scrambling for something to say!).
To make a long story short, the OLWW is just not going to go up again
in its present form. It is too long, too unruly and too difficult to
maintaine and work with at present. For example, opening the current
HTML file in Word yields a 92 page document (and that's without (!)
adding the 3 dozen or so new listings). It takes too long to open, too
long to save and too long to make changes in the current format.
Remember, too, that the "current format" began more than 5 years ago!
Technology has changed considerably since then and there is less need
for the OLWW to be "backward compatible" to non-graphical, text-only
browsers.
My plans are to "reinitialize" the OLWW as an online searchable
database but I will not be able to make this happen overnight. So, in
the meantime (in between time), I'm going to put up a short "fix file"
that will include only the new listings and the necessary changes. It
should be up by Friday. The current OLWW website will remain as it is
and submissions/changes can still be made there or by using the form
below.
I'll let everyone know when the re-born OLWW is ready...
