In Alberta batesii is not a prairie species although it does occur in
suitable pockets of habitats within the prairie biome, eg. riparian forests
and shrubby areas on hillsides. It is widely distributed in the boreal
forest and is commonly encountered in wooded areas at lower elevations with
asters - at least it used to be; have not snooped around in its range for
some years.
