We just got back from a two day trip to Yecora, Sonora and back to make
arrangements for the SEABA Labor Day Field Trip. A species list will be
posted in a few days - but the most obvious and remarkable phenomenum
was the sight of millions of Lyside Sulphurs (K. lyside) streaming
across the countryside from Imuris on Hwy 15 to Tecopa on Hwy 16. They
far outnumbered any other butterfly, and will probably invade southeast
Arizona in numbers this year.
Indeed Rich Bailowitz and Sandy Upson reported an early record for SE AZ
from the San Bernardino Wildlife Refuge a couple of weeks ago.
Things seem to be greening up down there with Queen's Wreath and
Bird-of-Paridise attracting at lower elevations and baccharis just
beginning to bloom in higher areas.
Cheers!
