There are other ways of distinguishing your material from that which was written
before you did your writing.  The blue bar at the left margin is one that my
software inserts automatically, as is the presence of a sideways caret in Doug
.sig file above.  which one is used depends on your software, but any software
worth its salt will do that for you.
